Forest
Spirit (paperback)
David Laing
An exciting, action-packed
yarn: adventure, mystery, magic, suspense, spiritualism, Aboriginal
and Australian culture, and a cast of interesting characters
including a wombat and a German Shepherd. Jacinta
Kelly (Jars), a part Aboriginal girl living in the Northern
Territory who is orphaned when a buffalo charges her family’s
ute, tragically killing her mother, father and brother.
Because she has no other family members in the NT, she is
sent to live with her uncle, aunt and cousin (Snook) in
Tasmania.
Snook
and Jars quickly become friends, and along with Quenton
Quigly, the annoying but not altogether bad son of the mayor
of the area, they have an adventure when they go camping
in the forest with Snook’s father. Jars meets the
Forest Spirit – an apparition that has appeared in
her dreams, and now asks for her help to uncover a secret
in the Tasmanian bush.
Jars,
her cousin Snook and the bumbling Quenton Quigley begin
and adventure in the wilderness that takes many unexpected
twists and turns! At the end of the story, the mystery of
Jars’ dream of an ancient man who later appears in
a rock carving in a forest cave is solved. Jars also begins
to overcome the grief of losing her family as she learns
that they will always be with her.

Exert From “Self Matters”, Dr Phillip C McGraw
–
I hold to the rather old fashioned belief that each of us
is blessed with particular gifts given to us by God, and that
it is our sacred obligation to identify, to cherish, and to
exercise those gifts for the betterment of ourselves and of
those in our lives. 1
Corinthians 7:7 (NIV)
But each man has his own gifts from God: one has this gift,
another has that.

New
Review
“Nothing is what it seems, take nothing for granted.”
With these words still haunting me from the back of the
book, I dove into Mariard, Volume I, The Gifting and couldn’t
put it down! Ms. Jones leads the reader through an engaging
tale, a story of good versus evil, treachery, honor and
love that spans a generation.
The gift of the Mariard holds unspeakable power. In this
novel, opposing factions clash again and again as they
seek to win the day, battling not only with their bodies,
but with their minds, as well. The “game”
rages on multiple levels and the reader is swept along
in a torrent of magical confrontations until the true
natures of Tegan, Cathmore and Vieanne are revealed.
What a great movie this would make! The visual imagery
contained in the book would yield some stunning sets and
the story would capture the audience’s attention
from the opening to closing credits. I’m really
looking forward to reading the additional volumes in this
series.
Hope you are well, Chris. I really enjoyed reading Mariard
and I mean what I said. This would make one heck of a
movie!

In Mariard Volume 1, Christine Jones, the author, writes like a
master who's consistently sensitive about her characters, what they
say, how they say it, and in what intrigues they walk into. She
has a fine ear for crafting flawless dialogue that shines true every
time. She's proving to all readers that she knows her subject and
how to engage and entertain them without fail.

Christine Jones Mariard Volume 1 The gifting, is an amazing book.
The story combines hi-tech with fantasy, magic with science, in
a way that makes it exciting to read — a real page-turner.
On one level it’s a swashbuckler tale. But deeper under its
surface, it confronts the struggle with loyalty to ones family,
and whether a person can change their fate. These are subjects that
are timeless and always interesting to explore, and this novel is
no exception. As I read this book, I kept thinking, “This
is the way story telling is supposed to be.” Well done, Christine!

An
astonishing piece of writing. You have brought the reader right
into each of the scenes. Your characters, although many, are so
descriptively portrayed that one has no difficulty following the
story line. And the mesh of the old with the modern is really unique.
If there was a category for six stars, I would have given you that.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Spend an hour with Christine Jones, and you'll want to stay. Christine
has you explore a land you never dreamed existed. There are plenty
of characters, of all shapes and sizes, Christine introduces you
to, and before you know it, you'll have concrete ties to some of
them, and others, you'll want to destroy. Christine has done all
the work, all you have to do is read, and enjoy, and laugh sometimes,
and furl your brow here and there, possibly get impatient, but for
sure, you'll want to read on. I know I did.

From the first page to the last Christine Jones book MARIARD VOLUME
1 THE GIFTING grabs you and keeps you until the last word. I enjoyed
reading this wonderful book and encourage you to dive into this
fantastic world. The book is an exciting ride that never stops.
The characters are three dimensional, alive, and full of passions.
The dialogue does not leave the reader wondering about the relationship
between each of the characters. The book pulls you into a world
that is fantastic and dark at the same time. The descriptions are
vivid and breath taking. Reading this book, I was impressed at how
the author could throw herself into the characters and create a
world that is fantastic. If you enjoy role playing video games,
fantasy movies, and role play fantasy books then you will enjoy
this first book in the series.
